About Julia
I’m a Boston-area writer, teacher , and writing coach with more than 25 years of experience helping students and writers become stronger, more confident communicators. I work with all kinds of learners and writers, designing our sessions around your needs and goals.I hold a BA in Humanities from the University of Chicago and a PhD in English from UMass Amherst. Over the years, I’ve taught AP Language, AP Literature, creative writing, and college writing at schools and colleges including Dana Hall School, Moses Brown School, Mount Holyoke College, and UMass Amherst.As a tutor, coach, and mentor, my areas of expertise include college essays, creative writing, AP Literature and AP Language, and AP U.S. History. Many of my students have gone on to place in creative writing contests and see their work published in literary magazines, journals, and school publications. I also work with teens and adults on a wide range of writing and speaking projects—from personal essays and applications to speeches, presentations, wedding toasts, and life stories.Beyond the classroom, I teach life writing to older adults. I’m also an optioned screenwriter and Moth storyteller.
